THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS STUDENT'S CHAPTER ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONICS BRANCH
M.I.T MANIPAL

The Institution of Engineers (India) is a unique and the oldest association of engineers in the world. It is formed with an intention of service to engineers working in different areas and different fields. It is a bench which brings the different types of engineers together for the exchange of knowledge. Hence, one can call it as a platform to expand our knowledge. The IE (I) has its service centers at all the district headquarters. The activities a of IE (I) has been extended to engineering students also by the Student chapters. This enables the budding engineers to involve themselves in the activities, presently student oriented. This gives them an idea of organizing the higher level activities of the IE (I). With these ideas, a Student Chapter was started in E & E Department of MIT in the year 1980 with Prof. K. Umashankar as Faculty Advisor. But, the chapter has cherished to its top level activities when taken over by Dr. Radhakrishna Aithal in the year 2001. Recently, that is from September 2003, the charge has been handed over to me as Faculty Advisor by Dr. Radhakrishna Aithal. I expect the same cooperation from the Staff and the student members. Presently we are having a total membership of 211 out of which 78 from Final year E & E, 84 from Third year E & E, 3 from Third year ICE and 46 from Second year E & E. Since it is difficult to manage the activities of the chapter because of the overwhelming interest shown by the students, three Co-Faculty Advisors are also nominated to share the work. They are Dr. Radhakrishna Aithal, Sri Mohan Kumar S. and Sri Giridhar Kini P. IE E&E has also launched two cash prizes for the two top scorers among I. E. members. The total marks from 1st Semester till 7th Semester in the first attempt will be considered for deciding the two top scorers. For this one has to apply soon after the 7th semester results. The prizes will be distributed in the valedictory function along with other prizes. Presently the prize amount for the current year is Rs. 1000 for top scorer and Rs. 750 for the second top scorer. The club also has its own library that has been of invaluable assistance to students. Outgoing members voluntarily donate the books and today the library boasts a collection of books on varied subjects. Mr. Suresh B. Shenoy (library convenor) who is guided by co-faculty adviser Mr. Mohankumar S, runs this facility effectively and efficiently.
